Join the RTTT Journey

In 2020, GFSI launched its bold new vision for transformational change to the way in which GFSI operates and seeks to make an impact. The programme of reform of GFSI is called “The Race to the Top” (RTTT). A key feature of the RTTT is the harmonisation of approaches to food safety auditor competence and proficiency with the introduction of a relevant professional development framework.

Food Safety Auditing is currently facing a critical challenge, marked by a significant decline in the number of food safety auditors and a worrying lack of new talent entering the field. Coupled with a reported decline in the consistency and quality of audits, this poses an urgent threat to the integrity of food safety systems and practices across the industry.

The GFSI Food Safety Auditor Professional Development Framework is designed to support industry in facing these pressing global challenges. This framework is intended to provide a clear and consistent matrix against which any food safety auditor at any stage of their career can assess themselves and see a route through to ongoing professional development and participation in the food safety auditor community.

Developed by an independent group of multi-sector experts, the framework provides opportunities for anyone wishing to engage in the food safety auditing profession from entry level to expert. GFSI is inviting all interested stakeholders to comment on the newly developed Food Safety Auditor Professional Development Framework. The purpose of this consultation is to gain feedback on the framework itself from all interested stakeholders.

Please ensure that this document is read in its entirety before proceeding to provide feedback.

Creating a Recognised Profession

Currently, while food safety auditors play a critical role in protecting public health, the lack of formal professional recognition has led to gaps in accountability, standards, and transparent career pathways.

The new Food Safety Auditor Professional Development Framework aims to address these challenges by providing a clear and structured pathway for current food safety auditors, aspiring professionals, and those transitioning from other fields. This framework promotes continuous learning, competency development, and standardised practices, ultimately contributing to the overall improvement of food safety within the industry.

N.B. Please note this consultation is not designed to deal with any aspects of the implementation of the framework, only to take feedback on the content of the framework itself.

Your Input is Key

GFSI is committed to transparency and collaboration. In line with its Governance Model and Rules of Procedure, GFSI is seeking input from a diverse range of stakeholders to ensure the framework aligns with industry needs, best practices, and supports the recruitment, retention and professional recognition of food safety auditors effectively.

How to Participate

Stakeholders are encouraged to review the full document and provide their feedback via the linked platform. GFSI also encourages sharing this consultation within organisations and with others who may be impacted. All input is greatly valued, and responses should be submitted by midnight CET 20 October 2024.
