GFSI Unlocks Benchmarking for BMRs v2024 with New Governance Framework

Since the Dublin Conference in April 2025, GFSI has listened intently and has actively addressed stakeholder feedback. GFSI is now moving forward with an enhanced governance system.

The BMRs v2024 Application Timeline

The GFSI Steering Committee has granted a 6-month extension to the application deadline for currently recognised CPOs.

CPOs recognised against v2020.1 must submit their application for rebenchmarking by this extended deadline. 

What CPOs Are Benchmarking Against

Developed in collaboration with industry stakeholders, the BMRs v2024 represent a significant enhancement to global food safety. Key features of the v2024 requirements include:

• Global Harmonisation: Full alignment with the latest updates to the Codex General Principles of Food Hygiene and ISO 22003.
• Streamlined Benchmarking Process: The process is optimised for improved efficiency and effectiveness, with simplified eligibility criteria and timelines.
• Food Safety Culture: Food safety culture has been more firmly embedded within Food Safety Management Programmes.
• Multi-Site Operations: Clearer guidelines are provided for certifying multi-site organisations.

Governance Improvements
