Together with our sponsor TESTO, GFSI would like to invite you to the Discovery Tours, a day of exploration through the bounty of the French Riviera. Together we’ll chart a course across the region’s rich culinary past and present, from a historic olive oil mill and a coffee roasting facility to an innovative organic grocery.
Château de Bellet
Our journey will take us to the crown jewel of one of France’s oldest wine-producing regions, whose wine has graced the tables of Louis XIV, Thomas Jefferson and Prince Albert of Monaco. Deep in the hills of Nice, you’ll stroll among Château de Bellet’s organic vineyards and sip their prestigious varietals in a tasting room that was once the family chapel.
Nicolas Alziari Olive Oil Factory
As you travel through Nice, you’ll notice that neighborhoods resemble urban olive orchards — the trees flower and fruit on every street corner. At the city’s last active olive oil mill, you’ll taste the culinary staple of the region and learn how Nicolas Alziari continues to innovate with new methods of harvesting, extraction and blending.
The agricultural wealth of Grasse manifests not only in its perfumeries but in its confectionaries, like this family-owned shop that dates back to 1921. Here, you’ll sample original delicacies that Florian creates from local fruits and flowers, set against the backdrop of the majestic Gorges du Loup.
The perfect pairing for Florian sweets is Malongo coffee, which has been roasted in Nice since the 1930s. On a guided tour of Malongo’s roasting facilities, you’ll learn how Malongo has adapted to the globalised market by adhering to strict standards for safety, sustainability and ethics.
As we proceed through Nice’s twentieth-century history we reach the age of the supermarket, a shopping experience that the multinational hypermarket chain Carrefour has helped to grow since its first shop opened in 1960. At a local branch in Nice, you’ll see how Carrefour remains at the cutting edge of retail.
Leclerc Bio & Italien
To observe how the retail landscape is changing in the twenty-first century, look no further than Leclerc’s Bio & Italien. A showcase for both new concepts and traditional omni-channels, the shop specialises in Mediterranean products that meet every modern desire, from organic produce to essential oils.
To top it all off, delegates joining a Discovery Tour will gain access to exclusive insights into the French retail scene thanks to our partnership with Kantar Consulting. This includes a special report which takes a look at the intense competition underpinning regional innovation and provides analysis of past and future evolution for the retail landscape in France.
