PARIS, 10 December 2018 – It is with pleasure that the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) Board of Directors announces that the Global Red Meat Standard (GRMS) Version 6 has achieved recognition against Version 7.2 of the GFSI Benchmarking Requirements.
First published in 2006, GRMS is tailored to the specific needs of the red meat industry and seeks to deliver transparency within animal welfare, quality, food safety and hygiene in meat factories. The Standard sets out the requirements for processes related to meat production and products from pork, beef, lamb/sheep, goat and horse.
Prior to this recognition, GRMS was already one of the GFSI-recognised certification programmes and applied for benchmarking of the new version of the GRMS standard against the latest version of the Benchmarking Requirements (Version 7.2). GFSI seeks to constantly evolve its benchmarking requirements in line with new challenges in the food industry, best practices, and stakeholder input to ensure safe food for consumers, everywhere.
For GFSI, the opportunity to continue working with Certificate Programme Owners (CPOs) towards the harmonisation of programmes around the world is highly valued. The GRMS re-benchmarking application was therefore received with much delight. By completing the collaborative re-benchmarking process, GRMS reasserted their commitment to global food safety
