PARIS, 8th October 2018 – The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) Board of Directors is glad to announce that FSSC 22000’s certification programme version 4.1 has achieved recognition against GFSI Benchmarking Requirements Version 7.1.

GFSI and Foundation FSSC 22000 thoroughly reviewed the certification programme during the collaborative and transparent benchmarking process. This recognition marks another milestone in the collaboration between GFSI and FSSC 22000, with the latter having first achieved recognition in 2010.

GFSI published its Benchmarking Requirements Version 7.1 in 2017, reflecting new industry challenges such as food fraud mitigation and unannounced audits, among others. With the publication of Version 7.1, FSSC 22000 and all other recognised certificate programme owners (CPOs) were invited to complete a new benchmarking assessment.

GFSI values the opportunity to continue fostering the harmonisation of certification programmes globally with current and future recognised CPOs and was therefore pleased to receive an application for re-benchmarking from FSSC 22000. During the benchmarking process, new scopes, namely Animal Feed Production and Transport and Storage Services, were added to the GFSI recognition of FSSC 22000.

Reacting to the good news, Fons Schmid, Chairman of FSSC 22000, said, “As the only ISO 22000 based food safety management certification programme, FSSC 22000 is proud to continue its partnership with GFSI. FSSC 22000 has achieved full GFSI recognition since 2010 and considers this recognition of great importance to the increasing number of brand owners using the certification programme”.
